NO On Prop 14 Voters should vote NO on Proposition 14 in the June primary. First, Proposition 14 is the result of a “bribe” to pass a budget, a behavior that should not be encouraged. Second, it works against the idea of accountability, “throw the bums out,” by reducing candidate and party choices in the general election. Third, it changes the purpose of a primary from parties selecting their candidates and other internal business to effectively eliminating competition. If Mr. Maldonado wanted to improve the electoral process, he could have suggested any of several ranked choice voting methods that give voters more choices and opportunities to vote for the candidates they want. As it is, voters may have a choice between to candidates from the same major party and no opportunity to vote for alternatives in the general election. Vote NO on Proposition 14.
