GENERAL UPDATE

This committee has been undergoing restructuring and has not met since 2000. Pamela Midell (not present) was the previous co-coordinator, but currently very involved at national level and with other projects. Robyn Oetinger, on the USGP International Protocol Committee provided background, updated information and some agenda items. Robyn will be available as a Liaison to USGP IP Committee, provide news updates, and answer questions.

LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE

Consensus of our three new Co-Coordinators; Leticia, Joey, Dana. Also, John Morton had interest and support from the group as a co-co, but declined as he will be traveling this summer. John will set up a listserve for this committee. Tian Harter is currently formalizing the website content.

COMMUNICATION WITH USGP, IP COMMITTEE & INTERNATIONAL GREENS

What should our protocol be concerning these committees?

Background: Previously the USGP, IP Committee felt there had been some `toe stepping' by the GPCA IP Committee as there was not clear communication/notification.

John Morton- wants to set a policy

Dana St. George- request for ?

Tian Harter- past control as an issue would like an independent and friendly communication with both.

David Sheidlower- Ca. is more than half the membership and money in the USGP, resists idea of us to be obligated beyond respectful communication to them

____________-What's our autonomy? Are we free to network with other Greens? Request group to be inclusive, "self-sufficient".

John Morton- What's our role/obligation to USGP, IP committee?

Doug- Working with National, we are an affiliate. We just need to let them know, be inclusive. If they can't provide us, we can do it ourselves.

Heidi, Shasta County- we help keep the USGP to growŠfor us not to be contentious

UN RESOLUTION 377

Robyn Oetinger- started in the US in the 70's. Has to do with when the Security Council can't make a decision to prevent war, then Š.

IC got resolution to Global Greens, there is still a push to have this resolution come to fruition. Looking at elected Greens to push this forward.

NEED FOR LIAISON TO AFRICAN FEDERATION

Robyn Oetinger- Currently the USGP does not have regular communication with Africa. Trying to get the word out to fill this Liaison position.

Role requirements: Email communication & Robyn will forward the position announcement to email list serve.

INTERNATIONAL NETWORKING

John Morton- For outreaching to the Multi Cultural Groups our local communities we can Network w/ the county of origin for these multi-cultural groups.

Suzanne Baker- Caution to be extremely careful, need to know about the groups and their issues.

Joey, Alameda County- Difficult to get people of other ethnicities.

Outreaching to bring other ethnic cultures in, more hetero- than homo- geneous. Maybe an IP issue of one of GROW?

Doug- GROW develop breadth and depth, specifically in working class communities. At their table had a large yellow banner poster overhead "Stop the War on the Poor". Was very effective in bringing people over to the table. Appealing to peoples needs.

Robyn Oetinger- Puerto Rican Green Party just started working with NYGP. NYGP offer some money and knowledge etc. and the Puerto Ricans are helping NYGP with outreach. There is excitement in outreaching w/ other international greens. Standing in solidarity and outreaching.

Suzanne Baker- Idea of a specific event, taking it to other countries and Green issue events. A list of inquiry to promote world thinking and keep informed.

Robyn Oetinger- receives stats, new etc. from USGP, IP committee and will give info updates about once per week.

Wilson- suggests Research Committee to look at other GP's in other countries

Doug- wondering if other International Green Party's has the spin of corporations on their platforms like we do.

Reply from several people (see below also)- in general no, 10 key values are present in most GP's, each area focuses on their homeland issues, for many GP's it's meeting the basic needs of people.

Tian Harter- Good issues to discuss are bottled water "water war".

There are a lot of areas to explore on common issues.

___________- Almost identical 10 key values, a lot of GP's have more emphasis on ecology, peace and non-violence.

___________- Coalitions- di

___________- Different political realities, different

___________- Great to research and what context they operate in

Tomas Sinon- Has info about German G.P. development. Surprised when he first came to the states how different the emphasis's are here in the U.S. Social Democrat a coalition there in Germany. Willing to be a resource for Germany.

David Sheidlower- A lot of 3rd world parties dealing with poverty/subsistence issues. CorporationsŠ..their trouble causing in 3rd world areas, direct relation to the p/s issues.

____________- Corporate Water, limiting access

____________- How can we develop communications w/ hosting?

____________- Idea to contact USGP liaisons to other countries, territories, and GP's

Robyn Oetinger- International Committee very well connected

Suzanne Baker- Idea to Open Plenaries w/ key note International Speakers

Joey, Alameda County- Open up to other organizations, not necessarily Green Parties, but if they meet the 10 key values.. can we be the door/coalition building?

John Morton- wants to impress personal responsibility and committees working through the listserve

Heidi, Shasta County- having outside groups tabling @ plenary, a way to spread the word
