WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Green Party of the United States condemns the violent attacks and mass murder at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and other sites. Greens around the country offer their deepest condolences to those affected by the attacks and to the loved ones of people killed or injured. It is likely that members of the Green Party and the family and friends of Greens will be among the victims. "The Green Party opposes all use of violence whether by government forces, by independent organizations, or by individuals, and we call all violent tactics thoroughly counterproductive," said Anita Rios of Ohio, one of the Co-Chairs of the Green Party of the United States. "Whoever and whatever group is behind today's attacks have earned the revulsion and condemnation of the world, and have set back whatever cause they hoped to advance. We stand with all Americans, and with all the peaceful people of the world and grieve." In consideration of those who have already been victimized by this violence, Greens appeal for thoughtful and reflective deliberation by the White House and all political representatives. History repeatedly shows that rash and violent retaliation only increases the loss of life and further amplifies the tragedy. "We ask our leaders to be just," added Anita Rios. "We ask that this horror not be compounded by the victimization or stigmatization of the innocent."
