SACRAMENTO (Nov. 9, 2005) – The Green Party of California said today Green candidates won four seats – of five races entered – during Tuesday's Special Election, giving Greens 66 elected seats statewide, including seven positions in Los Angeles County, according to Michael Feinstein, administrator of national Green Party Election Website.

Hilary Bradburg-Huang defeated a longtime Republican incumbent for a seat on the Pasadena City College Board of Trustees. Green incumbents Jim Harvey and Paul Perkovic won re-election to the Montara Water and Sanitary District Board in San Mateo County, and Nicole Vigeant won a seat to the Community Service Area in Tomales Village in Marin County.

Nationwide, Greens won at least 19 races in November elections, bringing the number of Greens elected in 2005 to 34, said Feinstein, adding that Pennsylvania reported the most Green victories Tuesday with eight.

In Minneapolis, two Green City Council members lost – victims of a redistricting plan enacted by Democrats for the purpose of removing Greens from public office. But another Green, Cam Gordon, won a council seat, and another Green who lost may call for a recount because the margin in his race was just 46 votes.

"These Green victories come despite shenanigans by the Republicans and Democrats, who continue to support the war in Iraq and brush aside the everyday concerns of citizens at home. Green candidates speak to these issues, and that is why we continue to win," said Pat Driscoll, GPCA spokesperson.
