Greens poised to collect big victories Nov. 4, including two supervisor posts in San Francisco; Just 3 state propositions garner support of Green Party

GREEN PARTY OF THE UNITED STATES NEWS RELEASE

SACRAMENTO (October 31, 2008) - Twenty-three members of the Green Party are on the California ballot Tuesday - including presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney - with the party poised to collect several big victories, including two supervisor seats in San Francisco. Greens already hold about 50 elected posts throughout the state.

And, the Green Party of California is officially endorsing just three state propositions - Prop. 2 (farm animal protection), Prop. 5 (Non-violent offenders) and Prop. 12 (vet bonds). Greens are opposing Props. 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, and are taking no position on Prop. 1A. (See this link for full details).

In all, Greens have, in addition to McKinney for President, six candidates for city council or mayor positions, including city council candidates Bob Nanninga (Encinitas), Linda Piera-Avila (Santa Monica) and Jon Mann (Santa Monica); and mayoral candidates former Marina City Councilperson Bruce Delgado (Marina), Kahil Jacobs-Fantauzzi (Berkeley) and Ivan Olsen (Gonzalez).

In San Francisco, incumbent Ross Mirkarimi is favored to retain his seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and current president of the school board, Mark Sanchez, is expected to also grab a seat. Both have been endorsed by major newspapers.

Greens are also fielding seven congressional candidates, including Carol Wolman (CD1), Dave Heller (CD9), Barry Hermanson (CD12), Carol Brouillet (CD14), Peter Myers (CD15), Phil Rockey (CD19) and Tom Lash (CD46).

Jack Lindblad is running for the California Assembly in the 39th District (LA).

Other Greens are competing in a myriad of other local elections, including three for school or college boards: Bruce Wolfe, San Francisco City College Board; Richard Boyle, San Bernardino Community College Board and John Selawsky, Berkeley School Board. Other local Green Party candidates include: Jesse Townley, Berkeley Rent Board and Robert Deutsch, City of Alameda Healthcare District.
