For the second straight term, the Napa Valley College Board of Trustees will have a Green Student Trustee - this time its Alex Shantz.

On May 14th, 25-year old Napa Valley College student Alex Shantz was appointed by the Napa County Board of Supervisors to the Napa County Gang and Youth Violence Commission.

As the North Bay representative for the Green Party of California Coordinating Committee, Shantz represents the Green parties of Napa, Marin and Sonoma counties on a state level. On campus, he’s the vice president of Napa Valley College’s Student Senate.

Green Party member Alex Shantz, vice president of the Associated Students of Napa Valley College, was one of the movement’s final speakers. He asked the small crowd to stand up before leading them in a chant of, “Who has the power? We have the power!”

With signs that read “Tax the Rich,” “Drink Wine, Not Tea” and “The Tea Party is Over,” more than 200 protesters marched Saturday from downtown to Napa Valley Expo to demonstrate against the Tea Party Express rally.
