Green Party of California endorses just one ballot measure on June ballot;
Proposition 15 would reduce corrupting influence of lobbyists on elections,
Greens say
SAN JOSE (March 10, 2010) - The Green Party of California (GPCA) announced
this week it was officially supporting only one of five propositions on the
June 2010 ballot - a measure that would experiment with public financing of
some candidates in the 2014 and 2018 elections to avoid the corrupting
influence of lobbyists.
Voting at the party's state convention in San Jose last weekend, delegates
representing Green Party counties throughout the state agreed to support
Prop. 15, which would use fees paid by lobbyists to finance Secretary of
State candidates. It means smaller parties could receive up to $1.3 million
in public financing for that SOS race.

Green Party of California marks 20-year anniversary in Berkeley Saturday, says
growing voter dissatisfaction justifies the party's relevance today more than
ever before
BERKELEY (February 6, 2010) - Growing voter dissatisfaction with today's
politicians justifies the Green Party of California's relevance even more than
when it was founded in 1990, said party officials on the celebration of 20
years as the state's most progressive political party at the Berkeley
Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists, site of the founding of the East Bay
Green Alliance in 1985.
The Green Party marked the anniversary of the party's official founding in
February 1990 by holding strategy sessions with current state, federal and
local candidates and welcoming present and past Green elected officials. About
100 people were in attendance.

United vs. Federal Election Commission decision nullified legislation

Governor Budget Response:
Green Party hits governor's protection of the wealthy, while
punishing children, elderly and poorest in the state
SACRAMENTO (January 8, 2010) - Despite claiming "we all share
the pain," Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's budget proposal announced
today again protects his wealthy friends and imposes cruel, draconian
and life-threatening cuts on the poor, the elderly and children, said
the Green Party of California Friday.
"The failure by the governor and legislature address the
state's ongoing structural deficit leads to these unacceptable cuts.
There are answers, including reforms like a split roll for Prop.
13, closing corporate tax loopholes, a more progressive income tax and
promoting real Green jobs to create a more sustainable and just
economy," Lisa Green, Green Party candidate in the 53rd Assembly
District.
