Standing General Assembly Timeline 2012-2013

Wednesday, July 4 - Launch of Standing General Assembly / Introduction by Standing Delegates

The SGA was launched, with all Standing Delegates subscribed to the gpca-votes email list.  Delegates were asked to introduce themselves, list their party experience and roles, and other relevant political and personal background as they see fit.  There are plans for the future to eventually create a profile web page for each Standing Delegate.

Tuesday, July 10 - Posting of the individual proposals for each of the 11 ballot measures/Beginning of Discussion Period

On July 9th, the Secretary of State designated numbers for each ballot measure. Originally the numbers were to be designated on July 2. The reason for the delay was that there had been a law suit to challenge the ballot placement of Governor Brown's tax measure.  The court ruled on July 9th.  Once that was resolved, the Secretary of State's designated numbers for each proposition, they were posted to gpca-votes, and discussion began, with replies recommended to the email thread that announced each proposal. During discussion, Standing Delegates are encourage to provide their own perspectives, that of their county party (if it has one) and those of relevant individuals, groups and organizations.

In the past, the GPCA has relied upon analysis done by county Green parties and compiled by the Campaigns and Candidates Working Group (CCWG). In particular, the Green Party of Alameda County has done extensive work on some of the measures. County Parties were strongly encouraged to get their recommendations to the CCWG and SGA after the August 1 posting date of the full official ballot labels, title/summary and pro/con arguments.

Tuesday, July 24 - Voter Information Guide Draft Released

The official ballot labels, and titles and summaries and pro/con arguments for each proposition (as they will appear in the Voter Information Guide) were released to the public on this date.  Previous to this date, the titles and summaries for each propositoin were the "circulating" titles and summaries for the petition circulation and signature gathering.  The original plan had been to send this new information to the gpca-votes list, and post them on the new SGA  voting page. However, owing to technical difficulties in establishing the voting page, the text was not posted until August 1.

Wednesday, August 1 - Official ballot labels, title/summary and pro/con arguments posted
The official ballot labels, and titles and summaries and pro/con arguments for each proposition were posted to gpca-votes and the SGA voting page. Owing to this delay, the teleconference originally scheduled for this date was moved back one week, and the start and ending dates of the voting period was moved back as well.
